What is linocut?
Linocut is a printmaking technique in which a design is first carved into a linoleum block, then coloured with ink, and finally printed on paper by applying pressure.
There are multiple techniques within linocut craft that allow the artist to incorporate multiple colours, lines, and gradients into final prints:
- Jigsaw linocut. A linoleum block is cut into small, jigsaw-like pieces. After each jigsaw piece is inked individually, all pieces are reassembled so they can be printed on paper in a single run.
- Multi-block linocut. The artwork is printed in multiple layers using a separate block of linoleum for each layer. Each lino block is carved individually and then printed on the paper one after another.
- Reduction linocut. The artwork is also made in layers, but each layer is progressively carved into a single block of linoleum. The first layer is carved, inked, and printed on all sheets of paper. And then, the process is repeated for each layer.
All are powerful techniques that could be challenging but are definitely interesting to work with.
Do you sell originals?
Yes, all prints available in my shop are considered originals. Since each print is inked and printed from scratch, all works show small deviations and are unique.
Do you reprint your old works?
Very rarely. If an item has "Limited Edition" in the description, the number of prints is strictly limited, and there will be no reprints of this design.
If an item states "Open Edition", I make prints in batches, e.g., "First Edition of 50". How many editions do I plan to print for a design? I never know in advance, hence, any edition could be the last one.
Do you sell non-originals?
Currently, I don't sell any reproductions of my works, but I absolutely do consider this to make my work more accessible, especially for the old works.
